I just received a timely payout from Bookmaker.com with a check drawn on a Canadian bank. It's my first payout by check. I'm a US customer. Can I just deposit this in my bank? Or should I cash it and then deposit the bank? Does it matter? Should I be worried about any legal issues?

Thanks all.

You have nothing to worry about unless your check doesn't clear. Simply put, your bank will more than likely "hold" your check until the funds clear...same diff if you got a check for 5K from you great aunt Betty. Just be smart and don't use the funds until it clears.

If the company that cut your check appears on the OFAC or FINCEN list you will be notified - but that won't matter to you because you didn't spend the cash. After years of reading these forums I've lurked many guys that know "everything" but when it comes to banking, this is my industry. I personally am involved with compliance, fraud, and IT security - and I have action off-shore. Just be smart and don't go out and blow your wad until you know those funds are legit.

Last add, we've cleard checks from plenty of non-US based books...this is fact. My bank doesn't care who cuts the check, just as long as the money is good. However, if you're talking checks of 10K+ then you will probably be flagged because of policy, but that is just standard business.

Shit, if you're getting checks of 10K+ you need to start posting your plays :)

gl man.

Avondale, good to know. What's the minimum amount before a check gets flagged?
